Our Borneo Adventure – by Jonathan, Ruth, and Jaqui Elliott

OUR BORNEO ADVENTURE

by Jonathan Ruth and Jaqui Elliott

We have just returned from a magical adventure in Borneo, which started with BA upgrading us to First Class - WOW - how the other half lives!

We flew to Kuala Lumpur to acclimatise for a couple of days.  This has changed beyond our recollection of 20+ years ago.

After a couple of nights we boarded a flight to Sandakan in Borneo and were driven to Sepilok Nature Reserve, where Jaqui (Mum) had a breakfast visitor called Michelle, a 10 year old Orangu-tan who took a fancy to her toast.  We also spent time at the Sun Bear sanctuary.

Our next stop was Kinabatangan were we spent 2 days zipping about in boats spotting Eagles, Monkeys, Bats, Crocodile and Owls.  One magical ride was at night to see the Fireflies – just looked like a flashing Christmas Tree!

We then travelled to Tabin Rainforest to see Gibbons, Orangu-tans in the wild, climbed a Mud Volcano, trekked through the Rainforest, waded waist deep across the river to a magical enclave and a stunning waterfall.

Our last stop was the beautiful, tranquil Gaya Island just off Kota Kinabalu, where Jaqui & Ruth had the most fantastic Spa treatment being wrapped up in crushed vanilla pods, yoghurt and a vanilla infused honey caco fruit masque whilst enjoying an Indian scalp massage of vanilla honey hair masque.  Jonathan decided to opt for an Indigenous massage to restore mobility!
